Guidance from John Capper across a range of key business skills helped to gear up a Staffordshire business for success.
The Leek businessman sought John’s help with the acquisition of the Great Gear Store.
John was able to support Carl in specialist areas including business acquisitions, raising funds, business development and assessing potential suppliers.
The Great Gear Store sells a huge range of memorabilia and specialist toys online.
Carl bought the company in autumn 2017, moving the business from Kent to his home town of Leek. Now he is developing plans to expand the business with John’s support as a business coach.
“John has worked with me throughout the process,” said Carl. “He helped me to evaluate potential businesses and we ruled out other options before deciding to purchase the Great Gear Store. I have run a small business for several years but had not previously gone out to buy a business as a going concern.
“I sought John’s advice because he has skills and experience as a finance director, a business coach and in areas such as business acquisition, funding and development.
“Moving forward, I am retaining John’s support to look at growing the Great Gear Store, evaluating potential new suppliers and to advise on all financial matters.”
Carl bought the Great Gear Store and all its stock from its former owners in Kent as a going concern. He has now established a headquarters in Leek and recruited a team of six.
The business has thousands of collectable items in stock such as Star Wars figures, Harry Potter wands and pop and rock merchandise.
With a background in online marketing, Carl is planning to grow the business with an improved website and new digital sales platforms.
